Timeline

Course of the war Carolina and Florida Pierre Le Moyne d'Iberville sought to establish a relationship with native people in the Mississippi watershed as a result of the last war with England . The fortified settlement was located to the north of the ceded Acadian territory, on Cape Breton Island . The loss of Newfoundland and Acadia restricted the French presence on the Atlantic to Île-Saint-Jean (now Prince Edward Island ) and Île-Royale (now Cape Breton Island ). French were resettled there from Newfoundland, and France constructed the Fortress of Louisbourg in the following years. [
