How it is calculated
- Calendar age counts whole years first, then whole months, then the leftover days — borrowing the length of the previous month when the day of the month has not come round yet. That matches how ages are stated in everyday life and in law.
- The day total is a straight subtraction of two day counts, so it already accounts for every leap year you have lived through.
- Weeks are the day total divided by seven and rounded down; hours and minutes are exact multiples of the day total.
- The next birthday is the next time your month and day comes round. For a 29 February birth date in a common year it uses 28 February and says so.
Where this is used in the real world
- Forms and applications that ask for an age in completed years on a particular date.
- Medical and childcare contexts where age in months or weeks matters more than years.
- Sport and school year-group cut-offs that depend on age at a fixed date.
- Celebrating unusual milestones such as a 10,000th day, which falls at about 27 years and 4 months.
Good to know
- Ages are counted from the calendar date, not the hour of birth, so the figure changes at midnight rather than at your exact birth time.
- Some legal systems say a person reaches an age at the start of the day before the anniversary. This tool uses the common convention of the anniversary itself.
- Dates before 1582 are shown on the Julian calendar because that is how they were recorded at the time.
Questions people ask
How many days old am I?
Enter your birth date and read the “In days” figure. It counts every calendar day from your birth date to today, including leap days.
What day of the week was I born on?
The result names the weekday. It is calculated from the day count, so it is correct for any year, and it flags when a date is on the Julian calendar.
Is my birth date stored or sent anywhere?
No. The calculation runs in your browser and the date only appears in the page address so you can bookmark or share the result if you want to.
What is my 10,000th day?
It is listed under day milestones along with the date it falls on and how many days away it is. Ten thousand days is roughly 27 years and 4 months.
