Early life
Early life David Charles Prowse was born on 1 July 1935 in Bristol , England. He was the son of Gladys ( née Burt) and Charles Prowse. [ 1 ] He was brought up on the Southmead housing estate in Bristol, gaining a scholarship to Bristol Grammar School . [ 2 ] Prowse was tall, standing 6 ft 6 in (1.98 m), and developed an interest in bodybuilding . His early jobs included working as a bouncer at a dance hall and at Henleaze Swimming Pool, where he met his future wife.
Path and career
Career Weightlifting and training Prowse won the British heavyweight weightlifting championship in 1962. The following two years [ 1 ] he represented England in the weightlifting event at the 1962 British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Perth , Western Australia. [ 2 ] During his bodybuilding course, Prowse became friends with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lou Ferrigno . [ 3 ] Prowse could deadlift as much as 785 lb (356 kg) and in 1963,
