Early life
Girgensons was born in Riga, Latvia on January 5, 1994. He began playing ice hockey in his native country before moving to North America to pursue a professional career.
Path and career
Girgensons was drafted 14th overall by the Buffalo Sabres in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut in 2013 and became a regular fixture with the Sabres, appearing in over 600 games for the franchise.
He has also played for the Vegas Golden Knights and other NHL teams, establishing himself as a reliable depth forward and penalty killer. Girgensons has represented Latvia in international competition, including Olympic and World Championship tournaments.
