Early life
Waterman was born on February 24, 1948, in Clapham, London. He began his career as a child actor in the 1950s, appearing in films and television before his teenage years.
Path and career
He rose to prominence in the 1970s as Detective Sergeant George Carter in the police drama The Sweeney (1975–1978). Waterman later starred as Terry McCann in the crime comedy-drama Minder (1979–1994), which became one of Britain's most popular television series.
Beyond acting, Waterman recorded several singles and albums, achieving chart success with songs like 'I Could Be So Good for You' from the Minder theme. He continued working in theatre, film, and television throughout his career until his death at age 74.
